Hey everyone! This week’s Warhammer Sunday Preview is absolutely stacked – we’re talking big changes in Age of Sigmar, Beastmen on the rampage in the Old World, and a ton of Middle-earth goodies. No time to waste, let’s dive right in!
Warhammer Age of Sigmar – New Season & Spearhead Boxes
First up, Age of Sigmar is blossoming with a brand new General’s Handbook 2025-2026. It kicks off a fresh matched play season themed around the Realm of Life (think Ghyran vibes) with updated battle tactics and rules. The Handbook actually comes as a boxed set this time – you get a 72-page rulebook plus cards, tokens, and even snazzy objective markers for the new season. In short, it’s everything you need to shake up your AoS games.
But the Mortal Realms aren’t just getting greener – they’re getting grimmer too. Spearhead (the fast-paced mini-game mode for AoS) takes a detour into Shyish, the Realm of Death, with the Sand & Bone Gaming Pack. This set packs in a spooky Shyish-themed game board (double-sided for two deathly locales), some new terrain pieces, and a 24-page Sand & Bone booklet with the latest Spearhead battlepack rules. It also includes all the cards you’ll need to play, plus rules for four new Spearhead forces. And speaking of those forces, here they come:
-
Spearhead: Sunblooded Prowlers – a Seraphon hunting pack mixing stealth and savage might. Ten Saurus Warriors backed by two teams of stealthy Hunters of Huanchi (with their Terrawings pets) and even a lava-spitting Spawn of Chotec. It’s a fast, scaly strike force straight from the stars.
-
Spearhead: Fusil-Platoon – a mobile gunline for the Cities of Sigmar. Led by a Fusil-Major riding a hulking Ogor Warhulk, this platoon brings an Alchemite Warforger for buffs, a unit of Wildercorps Hunters to skirmish up front, and two squads of Freeguild Fusiliers laying down black-powder firepower. Boom!
-
Spearhead: Mortisan Elite – an elite Ossiarch Bonereapers cadre. Imagine a Mortisan Ossifector (bone-shaper wizard) overseeing his gruesome creations in battle – you get three Immortis Guard, three Necropolis Stalkers, and a pair of towering Morghast Archai. It’s a heavy-hitting construct crew that smashes hard and keeps on coming.
-
Spearhead: Scrapglutt – a madcap Ogor Mawtribes warband. Led by an Ogor Mantrapper with his pet Frost Sabre, the Scrapglutt is all about big appetites and bigger weapons. You’ve got two units of Ironguts (two Ogors in one, four in the other), a mob of 12 gnarly Gnoblars, and a massive Gnoblar Scraplauncher catapult to lob junk at the enemy. It’s scrappy, it’s hungry, and it’s loud.
Now, are these new Spearhead boxes worth it? Absolutely yes! Each Spearhead box is a self-contained mini-army, perfectly curated for fast and balanced games on a coffee-table battlefield. They’re way cheaper than collecting a full army, but still packed with cool models and synergies – meaning you can start a new faction or jump into quick AoS skirmishes without breaking the bank. Plus, they double as a great foundation if you do want to expand into a larger army later. In short, Spearhead boxes give you big fun in a small package, totally worth it for newcomers and veteran players alike.
Warhammer: The Old World – Beastmen Return (and Elves, too!)
Meanwhile, Warhammer: The Old World is roaring back to life, and the Beastmen Brayherds are on the warpath! A new Arcane Journal: Beastmen Brayherds (48-page supplement) digs into their dark lore and adds fresh rules – including two named beastlord characters from legend. One is Kralmaw, the Prophet of Ruin, a blind bray-shaman who foresees doom (and yes, he’s getting a brand-new Forge World resin model). The other is the infamous Ghorros Warhoof, a classic character making a return in rules. This journal has their backstories, plus new Armies of Infamy to spice up your games.
If you’re looking to start a Beastmen army in one go, check out the Beastmen Brayherds Battalion box – 61 miniatures of horned, hooved mayhem. We’re talking two big blocks of Gors (15 each) for your main battleline, a horde of 30 Ungors to ambush and swarm, and a towering Ghorgon/Cygor monster kit to smash anything in its way (build it as either a four-armed Ghorgon or rock-hurling Cygor). It’s basically an entire Brayherd in a box, ready to trample the Old World underhoof.

On top of that, a ton of classic Beastmen kits are returning to the range. The brutal Beastmen Warlord (Beastlord) and the twisted Bray-Shaman are coming back in plastic to lead your tribes, and the mighty Doombull (Minotaur chieftain) returns in resin to add some muscle. Core units like Gors, Ungors, and elite Bestigors will once again be available, alongside hulking Minotaurs to smash enemy armor. Even the wild monsters are back – the petrifying Cockatrice, the dual-kit Ghorgon/Cygor, and the grotesque Jabberslythe are all slithering out of the warp-touched forests to join your army. To keep track of all this beastly goodness, there’s a Beastmen Brayherds Reference Cards pack (covering spells, mutations, magic items, etc.) and a set of Brayherd dice (brown and gnarly, with a Chaos star on the six) so you can roll in true beastman style.
And it’s not just Chaos in the mix – a small contingent of Elves is making themselves known amidst the upheaval. In fact, a bunch of classic High Elf and Wood Elf models are coming back Made to Order for a limited time. This is a rare chance to grab some legendary old-school Asur and Asrai miniatures (princes, mages, wardancers, you name it) to either rekindle your nostalgic armies or start new ones. They’ll only be available for a short window, so elf fans, don’t miss out!
Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game – Massive Supplement & Legendary Heroes
Middle-earth fans, hold onto your lembas – this week brings a huge expansion to the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. The centerpiece is the new Armies of Middle-earth™ supplement, a hefty tome boasting 130 unit profiles and 28 army lists covering forces from across The Lord of the Rings™ and The Hobbit™. This book updates a vast array of classic units for the current edition, essentially becoming an all-in-one army reference – a must-have if you want to muster the legions of Middle-earth. Alongside it comes a Matched Play Guide, packed with 24 balanced scenarios (including six brand new ones) and guidelines for running tournaments, team battles, doubles events, you name it. Competitive or casual, this guide will level up your game and make sure every battle is a fun challenge.
Now let’s talk miniatures – because there are plenty of new and returning models marching out of Minas Tirith’s gates this week. From the upcoming War of the Rohirrim movie era, we have Héra, Daughter of Helm Hammerhand joining the fray! She’s the headstrong Rohan princess and comes as a gorgeous plastic kit with two versions: on foot and mounted on her horse (Ashere). Speedy and deadly, she’ll lead your Rohirrim with style. Not to be outdone, Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth rides into battle with a new plastic model as well, also provided on foot and on horseback. Imrahil exemplifies Gondor’s chivalry, and his new sculpts capture him heroically charging with his Swan Knights. To celebrate Dol Amroth, there’s even a Dol Amroth dice set – royal blue with silver pips and Dol Amroth icons – so you can roll in princely fashion.
The creatures and villains of Middle-earth are getting love too. Beechbone the Ent is here – remember the Ent who got set on fire at Isengard? He’s now a massive Forge World resin model, ready to avenge the forests by hurling boulders and smashing orcs. On the evil side, Bolg, Spawn of Azog arrives in a new plastic kit, giving Azog’s infamous son a dynamic model both on foot and mounted on a ferocious Warg (with an optional orc bow for extra nastiness). The Corsairs of Umbar are adding some heavy firepower with a resin Umbar Coastal Ballista and crew – perfect for peppering your enemies with giant bolts when you stage your pirate raids on Gondor’s shores.
As if that wasn’t enough, a whole host of classic Middle-earth miniatures are returning to store shelves to support the new supplement. We’re seeing the return of the deadly Lords of Umbar (those three distinct Corsair heroes, including the Bo’sun and Captain), plus a set of Corsair Crossbowmen to bolster your raiding parties. In the shadows lurk the Black Númenórean Warriors – three sinister metal minions of Mordor making a comeback. From the depths of Moria, two huge terrors are back: the Moria Cave Drake and the mighty Dragon of Moria (both in resin) will terrorize any fellowship of heroes. Supporting them, we have the goblin leaders Durbûrz, Goblin King of Moria, and Drûzhag the Beastcaller returning in metal to command the goblin hordes. The forces of good are rallying too: three stalwart Khazad-dûm Dwarf Commanders (a captain, banner bearer, and war horn blower) are returning in metal, and they’re bringing a Dwarven Ballista (resin war machine with crew) to hold the line in Moria’s halls. From Gondor, the brave Beregond, Guard of the Citadel returns in metal, and he’s manning a Gondor Avenger Bolt Thrower to defend Minas Tirith. And last but not least, the mysterious woodlands stir with the return of the Woses of Drúadan Forest – a set of 15 metal tribal warriors led by their chief Ghân-buri-Ghân. That’s right, the pint-sized, forest-dwelling Woses are back to ambush any invaders foolish enough to trespass. Basically, if you’ve been waiting for a particular Middle-earth model to resurface, check this list – it’s probably in there! This is an incredible wave of nostalgia for collectors and a treasure trove for new players looking to field iconic Middle-earth forces.
